Many of our patients at the Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic suffer from oily skin; not just teenagers but patients of all ages. A major positive of oily skin is that when cared for correctly, this skin type can age well and develop fewer wrinkles.

Some people have oily skin throughout their lives due to their genetics which influences skin type, while others have phases of oily skin due to hormonal changes, for example pregnancy or menstruation.

Those with oily skin have an increased production of sebum; an oily secretion that protects your skin from bacteria and the elements. When too much sebum is produced it can contribute to acne, so just as with acne-prone skin, the temptation is to under-moisturise and ?dry out? the skin.

However, this common misconception that drying out the skin can prevent spots actually encourages your skin to produce even more sebum and subsequently encourages the development of acne. It is important to clean oily skin well to remove excess oil, but not to over-exfoliate, which removes the top layer of skin and can further encourage sebum production. Our advice is to follow the correct skincare regime to hydrate your skin without leaving it feeling greasy and even oilier.

We are very proud of the fact that all skincare and cosmetic products in the Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic range are plant-based and natural, as well as being free from harsh preservatives, which can dry out the skin and have potential long-term damaging effects.

Here is our step-by-step guide to looking after oily skin:

Step 1: Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic Botanical Cleansing Lotion: This cleanser effectively cleans oily skin without drying it out.

Step 2: Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic Botanical Firming Toner: This toner is essential to prime the skin to allow the moisturiser to be drawn into the skin.

Step 3: Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic Jojoba Day Moisturiser: The key active ingredient of jojoba oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps to dissolve excess sebum that can clog pores and cause skin breakouts, making it ideal for treating oily or combination skin.

Step 4: Claudia Louch Natural Skin Clinic Mineral Mud Mask: This unique toning mask detoxifies the skin by pulling out impurities and shrinking pores, to leave skin feeling beautifully firm and baby-soft after just one use.
